Naval battles are all about timing, aiming shooting and dodging. It’s pretty much what you’d expect out of a naval battle. However, depending on the type of the ship you’re battling against, you might battle in a “Fruit Ninja” fashion. We’re dead serious about this.

Some battles will require you to dodge enemies cannons and shoot back at them. While this is rather unrealistic for a game that takes itself as seriously as Assassin’s Creed franchise does, we forgive it. Dodging cannonballs with your ship is rather fun.
When it comes to wide attacks that you simply can’t dodge, you will have to counter them. In order to do this, you have to use a specific tool. We are not expert on Pirates and we don’t really know what it’s called but it’s some kind of cannonballs connected with chains. These are used to counter enemy projectiles from what we understand. To tell the truth, they look more like something to rip apart enemies sales...
Nevertheless, the way you do this is actually interesting. In order to successfully counter-attack, you have to connect dots from the smallest number to the highest one. And you have to do it fast if you’re to save yourself.
But that’s not every time you must swipe across the screen in a Fruit Ninja fashion to split apart incoming cannonballs. Were not even making this up, this is how you battle large ships.
While it is okay to slice cannonballs, you don’t want to do that with the explosive barrels. You want to tap into those instead. And when it comes to explosive creates (crates, not barrels) with a red X on them, you want to ignore those altogether.
But where does gold come into any of this?
Gold is used to improve your ship. If you want to stand a chance against some more powerful enemies, you will want to improve your ship. From weapons to damage soaking abilities, there’re lots of things to improve.

You can explore ancient Mayan ruins and play the game of a first-person Temple Run. This way you get gold as well as some unique collectibles.
